Have you ever regretted a true love that comes only once in your lifetime? That this true love came when you didn't bother to have love at all, it is just that you are having fun when you ain't noticed that there is love that is happening within that friend relationship.
Yes, you are just being yourself when you are with her and didn't actually intend to impress her at all, you just want to keep that relationship going by keeping it up to her all the time.
True love is a gift but we let it drift. You said to your friend as best as your best friend (that is in opposite sex.) She is even as best as your best friend when she already knew of what you are and now she is trying to pull the trigger to have the relationship that she wants.
Yes, you just let it slip away because you want that relationship to last longer than the usual time frame of having that in a relationship status and you just don't want to end up your relationship with that heartbreak. And if she ever knew of what true love really means, then she would have to wait or vice-versa.
Waiting for her means you're not waiting for her to break that relationship with her boyfriend, it is just that you have to give her space and time and if she ever come back to you then that's time to live that true love you're talking about (or vice-versa, where you are the one she is waiting for).
